Vivo X90 Pro Review

Vivo X90 Pro

Vivo is a Chinese brand that makes some of the best cameras on the market. Its latest offering, the X90 Pro, is ready to go up against Samsung and Apple in the photography battle.

It’s an incredibly capable camera that’ll deliver some of the finest shots you’ve ever taken from your phone. The Zeiss optics are a real USP, and they work in perfect partnership with the X90 Pro’s processor to produce stunning results.

Camera

Vivo has long been a name to watch in photography, and the X90 Pro shows that it’s still at the top of its game. Taking advantage of an oversized 1-inch sensor and Zeiss optics, it delivers some very impressive results.

The camera uses a ZEISS Natural Color 2.0 color profile to give images a more realistic look, and it does a good job of rendering details in low-light environments. The phone also features an eye protection mode, which adjusts the screen’s brightness according to light levels, reducing the risk of blue light exposure that can cause eye fatigue.

The telephoto lens on the Vivo X90 Pro has a maximum aperture of f/1.6, so it takes some really excellent photos in most lighting conditions. However, it’s limited to 2x optical zoom, which isn’t as good as the 3.5x Periscope zoom lens on the X90 Pro Plus.

Performance

Vivo has been a big player in the camera phone space in the past few years, thanks to a unique micro-gimbal stabilisation technology and its partnership with photography brand Carl Zeiss. Its 2022 X80 Pro was one of the best camera phones of its era, and we think the new X90 Pro is set to take another step forward in the brand’s quest for the perfect smartphone for shutterbugs.

Our test results show that the camera system in the X90 Pro is impressive, especially when it comes to low-light shooting. The camera delivers natural-looking, detail-rich photos, and it also offers a number of modes to help you capture stable shots of moving subjects.

It has a decent battery too, with a 4,970mAh capacity that’ll last you all day and can be charged quickly with the included 120W charger. It’s not the biggest battery on the market, but it’s more than enough to get through a full day of use without charging too often.

Design

Vivo’s X90 Pro has been designed to be as comfortable to hold as possible. Its 6.78in AMOLED screen is curved at the sides, while the phone’s form factor allows you to use one hand without feeling too much heft.

The X90 Pro is a great choice for anyone looking for a premium flagship with a good balance of performance, design and battery life. It also comes with a Zeiss-tuned camera system, a curved 120Hz AMOLED display and an IP68 water and dust rating.

The giant 50MP main camera sensor is one of the biggest we’ve seen in a smartphone, and it delivers some class-leading low-light snaps. It can also shoot surprisingly crisp images with natural background blur when taking portraits, even when shooting at distance.

Battery

Vivo X90 Pro has a 4,870mAh battery, which is slightly smaller than the 5,000mAh batteries in its high-end rivals such as the Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra or OnePlus 11, but it does hold up very well under heavy use. You can expect a full day’s use from the Vivo X90 Pro, and it’s a good choice if you want to be able to leave your phone at work or school for longer.

The 6.78-inch AMOLED display on the X90 Pro is a great size for viewing content, especially with complete HDR10+ support. However, it doesn’t support lower refresh rates than 60Hz, which is a shame for those who need a more flexible screen.

The X90 Pro is a great smartphone, but there are some minor issues with the camera and battery life. It’s certainly not the best camera phone around, and its battery isn’t as good as the Galaxy S23 Ultra’s – but it’s very impressive and should please most people who are looking for a premium flagship in 2023.
